This project is a 'living history' of the Kampot region specifically but Cambodia generally (from 1860 - 2000). It is the work of Jim Pollock, (who clearly has too much time on his hands) and some collaborators; Steve Ireland, Alan Pollock and Sokun Bou in Kampot. It has two reasons to exist;
1. It is a written history of the Kampot region that does not seem to exist anywhere - in English at any rate
.
2. We recommend visitors to Kampot take one of our driver-guides to show them the region, so it is an income stream for those locals in Kampot.

A bit more about the KOTE Driver Guides Project...

2018 is our first venture into training ‘driver-guides’ to lead interested visitors to Kampot through some of the history that has dominated the region and the country over the troubled years of the mid twentieth century.
We are taking experienced local drivers who speak good English and have a suitable personality and adding value to what they can deliver.
They are already delivering a great experience – we wish to build on that, and invite you to be a small part of this process by taking one of the tours below.
Bokor Mountain
One of the places that you may want to visit whilst in Kampot is Bokor Mountain. Organise through Sokun who is our contact on the ground in Kampot and can be reached by either:
Phone: 012 432 201 OR 097 233 3319
Email: sokun@kampot-ontheedge.org
Please contact him and you can negotiate the most suitable driver and transport mode - tuk-tuk or taxi - for what you want. Generally you can expect to pay about $25 for half a day up to $35 for a full day on a tuk-tuk. Taxis are more, especially if you go up Bokor mountain or travel a long way..
